When you and your spouse begin planning your wedding, one of the first things you will look for is a ceremony and reception venue to host your nuptials. This is where you both should sit and think about what kind of wedding you want to have, for this will determine and narrow down the venue you will be looking at. Here’s what to consider before scheduling site visits:
How do you define your wedding style? Do you and your spouse want a classic ballroom reception with chandeliers? Do you see a romantic garden setting? Or a laidback beach ceremony in the sand? It’s important to figure out what kind of wedding you want to have as this will determine what kind of venue you will be selecting. Whether it’s a modern loft, intimate restaurant, historical estate, hotel ballroom, or a seaside port, let the venue be a reflection of who you are as a married couple.
Will you be hosting a large party of 150 guests or more? Or do you want a small number of close family and friends for a more informal gathering? Your guest count will determine the size of the venue you will need. That quaint historic home with the lovely gardens may not be the ideal site for a wedding of, say, 100 guests. Also, keep in mind the services and entertainment your wedding will have. A 10-piece live band will need more room to perform than a DJ. Allow your wedding to have the space required so you and your guests don’t feel cramped.
If a venue is much more extravagantly decorated there’s no need to hire a rental company or an additional florist. The venue’s décor might not also match your style or vision. Be sure to visit the venue beforehand so that you can decide if the ambiance of the space fits you perfectly, whether it’s a blank canvas to work with or decorated exactly as you like.
While these considerations may seem small in comparison to items such as budget or services, it’s the small things that can make or break a decision. Your wedding should reflect you and your spouse from beginning to end, and that should most certainly include the venue.
