Questions to Ask When Selecting Your Venue

As you begin planning your wedding, one of the most important decisions you will make is the venue! When visiting locations you are interested in, it is helpful to ask the right questions to ensure you have found the perfect spot for your celebration.

  • What is the guest capacity?
  • What are the available hours? What is the policy and fee for extended hours?
  • What are the options and arrangements for payment?
  • What is the cancellation policy and fee?
  • Who is responsible for providing insurance if it is required by the facility?
  • Are catering services provided?
  • If private catering is allowed, do you have a list of preferred and approved caterers?
  • What facilities are available for use (such as kitchen facilities)? Is there an additional fee?
  • Are rentals such as tables, chairs, linens, chargers, dinnerware, silverware, glassware, etc., included? Is there an additional fee?
  • Is the facility staff responsible for cleanup? When must the facility space be cleaned?
  • What are the alcohol policies? Does the venue have a beer and wine license?
  • What is the setup time for vendors and what are the policies?
  • Is there a dance floor available? What is the policy for any additional dance floor space?
  • What are the policies for entertainment (i.e. bands, DJs, etc)?
  • What electrical voltage can your facility handle for a large band or DJ?
  • Is parking available on site? Is there a fee? If not included, is valet parking allowed?
  • Are items such as confetti, bubbles, sparklers, etc. allowed to be used in/around the facility? Who is responsible for cleanup?
  • Will security services be provided? Is private security allowed? Is there a fee?
  • If you select a hotel as your venue, is there a discount for reserving a block of rooms for out-of-towns guests?
  • Are there any other restrictions?
