El Mariachi Continental de Hector Guerra was founded in January 1980 by Hector & Helen Guerra in McAllen, TX after years of musical study at Texas A&M Univ. Kingsville, as well as studies with great masters of mariachi music such as the Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán! From its inception, and continuing to this day, Hector has taken the name of Mariachi, its traditions, and Mexican culture to the highest levels by being recognized as one of the best and leading pioneers of this music genre in our Rio Grande Valley.
Under Hector’s direction for over 40 years, El Mariachi Continental continues to bring this outstanding great musical heritage by participating in events of great importance and relevance to our area communities such as Charro Days® Fiesta, Borderfest® Festival, HEB®’s Annual Feast of Sharing Event plus many numerous concerts alongside the world-renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, El Mariachi De America de Jesus Rodriguez and accompanying great artists such as Lucha Villa, Angelica Maria, Alberto Vasquez, Lucero, Pedro Fernandez, Aída Cuevas, Manuel Mijares, Ana Gabriel, Angeles Ochoa plus many others. In 1997 & ‘98 Mariachi Continental was named one of "The Best Mariachi in Texas" by also participating in the International Mariachi Competition held in Houston, TX during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and to this day remains one of the best in the Rio Grande Valley.
They proudly continue to present the best of our Mexican musical culture, especially for you!
