Planner vs. Designer

With an array of professional vendors to assist you in bringing your wedding to life, there’s none more sought after than the Wedding Planner. However, brides have been seeing the term “Wedding Designer” being used, leaving them wondering what is the difference.

Wedding Planner

  • Handles the logistics
  • Deals with vendor negotiations
  • Creates timelines
  • Determine and balance budget
  • Coordinates your design details with your budget and vendors
  • Keep track of invitation and stationery schedule
  • Becomes the point of contact for the “Day Of”
  • Coordinates the “Day Of”, including but not limited to the Rehearsal, Rehearsal Dinner, etc.

Wedding Designer

  • Handles the aesthetics
  • Creates design concept
  • Assists with décor budget
  • Compiles color palette and schematics
  • Coordinates with florist, rentals and linens, lighting, etc.
  • Utilizes vendors for specialty rentals and visual props

These are just some of the many duties that come with these professionals, but as you can see a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Designer fairly differ from each other. While a Planner may be a Designer, a Designer may not be a Planner. A bride shouldn’t be obligated to hire both, it all depends on their budget and their wedding planning needs. Now many times a vendor may be both a Planner and a Designer, combining the best elements into one full service. Talk with your potential coordinator and see if their services are just what you’re looking for.
